Help Pip financially support her Nan
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Pip and I am raising funds to financially support my Nan and her three dogs.
It is hard to put into words just how incredible my Nan is. Ann took me and my brother in, with our gramps, Rob, when we were orphaned at a very young age. This was after raising three children, that had already grown up and had children of their own. Becoming kinship carers, our grandparents did this with no financial support from the government, but they gave us unconditional love and support, where we are now able to take care of ourselves.
In the last two years we've lost two close family members from a genetic condition that developed into cancer. My Nan's oldest daughter, my Aunty Becki, passed away from cancer in 2023, and my Gramps passed away last November. 18 years ago, my Nan also lost our Uncle Jonathan to this same condition, and I cannot imagine the pain that my Nan feels every day after losing her husband and 2 of her children.
Since my gramps passed away, Ann no longer receives her disability allowance to help with household expenses and is essentially on a single, part-time income. She also could not access bereavement support because she is 72 and of pension age. Nan has to work to cover bills and necessities for herself, because her pension isn't enough.
In addition to this, having two funerals in two years to pay for, my nan had to use savings and her credit card to cover the costs. So much of her savings have gone towards hospital trips and supporting our family, several of which have the genetic condition that we have lost my Gramps and my Aunty to.
My nan also lost her dear friend Sue just a few months ago, who she spent time with every day. Sue left behind two dogs, Leila and Murphy, which she wished to be kept together. So like the two kids she took in 13 years ago, Ann took in Leila and Murphy to keep them together, alongside her own dog Rolo. Since both my granddad and Sue have passed away, when I see my Nan with these three dogs, they seem like the only thing keeping her together.
My Nan didn't want help at first - she told me she would make some money selling some of Sue's belongings to take care of the dogs, but recently she has been given an £800 vet bill, which she cannot afford. I really want to help my Nan, but living away from home and having fluctuating expenses, I cannot fully support her with this vet bill without taking a significant chunk out of my own savings.
My Nan has worked all of her life, and she has constantly put others needs before her own, so at her request I have made this fundraiser. It would mean the absolute world if you could spare just one cup of coffee this week, to help me help her, after everything she has done for me and so many others.
I would like to raise £1000 in total - £800 for Murphy's vet bill, and just £200 to give my Nan for her to cover general expenses for the dogs.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and thank you for donating if you can.
All the best,
Pip
