Help power a high school in Azena, Ethiopia
Donation protected
Hello,
I am Getnet Tadele, a full-time Sociology professor at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. I grew up in a farming village near Azena town (Awi Zone), witnessing several challenges facing the people in and near my home village and district. After moving to Addis, where I completed my university education, I decided to help the community address two of the challenges: the annual loss of life and hard-earned property because of the absence of a safe crossing over the Ayo River; and several children unable to achieve their dreams like me because of the lack of schools nearby.
Since 2006, I have been working tirelessly to mobilize the financial resources and technical expertise needed to address the above problems from NGOs, friends, and the community and helped in building 48 mts steel bridge over Ayo River and four high schools, two elementary schools and one high school library (see here ). Thank God, there has not been any reported loss of life and property from drowning since the construction of a bridge over the Ayo River in 2008. It is so gratifying to see thousands of children accessing good quality education close to home in the four newly constructed high schools and two newly constructed elementary schools (see here ).
In September 2023, we completed a high school in Azena, capital of the Ayo Gugusa Woreda (see here High school in Azana ). Although the new high school is operational, it lacks critical inputs such as electricity, water supply, computers, internet, and cafeterias for students and staff. Schools have more to offer than four walls. In terms of priority, electricity is a pressing need. Therefore, I would appreciate any amount of donation that would help buy a transformer (estimated cost ETB 800, 000/ $15,000) and connect the school to the grid. We can think of computers, the internet, and other services only with a regular power supply. Every penny counts, and your donation will ensure that our students and teachers are equipped to make a difference. Appreciate your support!
