Help Praise Win Housing Battle Against Slumlord

Praise and her roommates started a rent strike with their TA in April ‘23 after a few motivating meetings and momentum to fight for their demands from their landlord. They’ve had to battle with inconsistent heat and hot water, structural issues, lack of attention to mold/water damage, harassment, and illegal subdivision of apartments. They have had a few wins along the way, but with the morale of their TA dropping and neighbors settling, it’s come time for them to decide next steps.

Praise needs to have all of the back rent to use as leverage for negotiations, and this is where the GFM comes in. In her words; “Life happens. Especially in this capitalist society where we have no choice but to live paycheck to paycheck, getting sick costs a week’s worth of groceries, and we have to pick and choose opportunities based on how much they pay. I don’t like having to feel shame over asking for help for a basic need, but it’s here. It’s here as I type this, hoping I’ll be able to raise the money, stay in my apartment, and hopefully get our landlord to answer some of our demands.”

Praise is an artist, organizer, educator, and all around community gal. She has devoted much of her time and energy towards housing justice and the liberation of Palestine. In a system that does not have structures in place to support independent artists and radical organizers we look to community to show up. Let’s rally for Praise so she can put an end to this housing precarity and get back to doing the important work.
