Help preserve Alvar Aalto's masterpiece
Donation protected
Alvar Aalto’s Church of the Three Crosses was completed in 1958 in Imatra, a small town in the southeastern part of Finland. It is considered to be Aalto’s most unique church design and fuses a broad range of motifs into a unique, coherent work of artistic perfection.
The model for the church is part of the Aalto collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The church is currently on the shortlist for the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The church is now in desperate need of repair and restoration. It has suffered major water damage and other long-term problems. Due to the condition, the building hasn’t been in its original use since 2020. Meanwhile, it still attracts hundreds of visitors from all over the world.
The estimated cost is 3-4 million Euros. The church itself does not have the funds and sadly neither the Finnish government nor cultural institutions have offered to help. Right now it’s up to “the people” to step in and help preserve this national treasure.
I grew up in Imatra and I’m grateful for the start it gave me. Now I want to give back. This is my personal “pay it forward” to my hometown and its beautiful treasure. Please help me by donating any amount to this worthy cause.
This is an independent crowdfunding for donations for the restoration and renovation of the church. The money will be donated to the church through PRO Kolmen Ristin Kirkko, a crowdfunding association founded in Imatra in December 2021 to promote awareness and knowledge of the history of the Church of the Three Crosses.
