Help Preserve Amazon's Medicinal Plant Knowledge. October 14

Tax deductible

Light for the Amazon is working with the local community of Santa Maria De Ojeal in Loreto, Perú to assist in creating an educational program to harvest and transmit the knowledge of traditional healing practices based on medicinal plants of the Amazon rainforest; paired with teaching how to sustainably use natural resources and how to best utilize lands already cleared to maximize the support for productive activities without generating further deforestation.

Now starting on October the 14th we are fostering the collaboration between the local school and experts in the field of plant medicine, agroforestry, and conservation. We are providing the necessary resources for the school while also funding the presentations and projects of local experts with the students. This first step will be a one week education program with activities for the students of the primary and secondary school. We will support the school project of creating a garden to grow medicinal plants, and we will develop art projects with the students on the theme of medicinal plants of the Amazon. Our funding will provide materials and resources for the projects and also cover the contributions of local experts in the field of ecology, conservation and plant medicine. We are starting a garden of medicinal plants with the school.
