Help preserve Chen Lok Lee's artistic legacy
Donation protected
On December 13, 2020, I lost my father, pioneering Asian immigrant artist and professor Chen Lok Lee, to COVID-19. Due to the pandemic, we were not able to bury my father as a family, nor have we been able to give him a proper memorial service yet.
Instead, I have been working since January 2021 to launch a project that will honor his contributions as an artist, educator and immigrant to the United States. I need your support.
My father contributed deeply to society by bringing diverse people together through his art, teaching, cooking and life philosophies.
We are working to catalogue, digitize, archive and share his works of art on paper. We will archive his legacy so that future Asian American and Pacific Islander, immigrant and other young artists of color can be inspired and see themselves and their families in the
story that my father shares.
This project also creates a way for my father's students to revisit his work and influence in their lives, and to be inspired by everything they learned from him.
It's critical that in this climate of anti-Asian hate and violence that we acknowledge the contributions of Asian Americans to society, and to highlight the stories of role models and pioneers who have worked to overcome systemic barriers and bring change to diversify long-standing institutions.
Funds will be used to hire a project assistant, purchase museum-grade archiving materials, and prepare works of art for a memorial exhibition this fall. All friends and family will be invited to join us to celebrate his works of art together at a show in Philadelphia when it is safe enough to gather.
Thank you for your support. ❤
