Support the Lake County Historical Society: Preserving Our Past, Enriching Our Future
Founded as the Lake County Old Settler’s Association on September 25, 1875, the Lake County Historical Society has been a cornerstone of our community for nearly 150 years. Our original mission, as stated in the Crown Point newspapers, remains at the heart of what we do: “The objects of the Association are to renew old associations, to recover old events and to enjoy a few pleasant hours together.”
Today, we carry this legacy forward through the Lake County Historical Museum, situated in the historic Old Lake Court House in Crown Point. Since 1982, our museum has been a place where residents and visitors alike can connect with the rich history of our community, thanks to the dedication of our 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation.
As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2025, we are excited to celebrate this milestone by continuing to fulfill our mission of "connecting people with the stories of our community." However, we need your help to ensure the preservation and enhancement of our museum and its programs.
Why We Need Your Support
General Operations: The day-to-day running of the museum requires significant resources. From staffing and administrative costs to utilities and supplies, your contributions ensure that we can keep our doors open and provide a welcoming experience for all visitors.
Museum Upkeep: The historic Old Lake Court House, which houses our museum, is an architectural treasure. To maintain the integrity and safety of this building, we need ongoing maintenance and repairs. Your donations will help preserve this iconic structure for future generations.
Exhibits and Improvements: To make history come alive for our visitors, we are continually updating our exhibits and improving our facilities. With your support, we can develop new displays, enhance our interactive exhibits, and create engaging educational programs that bring the stories of Lake County’s pioneers and first settlers to life.
Join Us in Celebrating 150 Years of History
As we gear up for our 150th anniversary, we invite you to be part of our journey. Your donation will make a lasting impact on our ability to preserve the rich heritage of Lake County and to educate and inspire future generations.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us move closer to our goal. Together, we can ensure that the history of our community is preserved and celebrated for another 150 years.
Thank you for your support and for being a part of the Lake County Historical Society family. Please visit us at our museum located on the second floor of the Old Lake Court House. We are open 1-4 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. (May- October)
