- My name is Gunnar Barthuly and I’m reaching out because our little family is struggling to make ends meet. On October 6th my fiancé was 34 weeks pregnant and not doing well so we rushed to the hospital to find out that she was suffering from preeclampsia. The doctors told us that we would not be leaving the hospital without our son being born early because of her extremely high blood pressure due to preeclampsia. It was a very scary time for us and after 26 hours of inducing and constant monitoring of maras blood pressure our sweet little angel was born at 3lbs 9oz. He was having issues and his ventricles were swollen and he had a build up of fluid on his brain and after a week we were told that Preston had hydrocephalus and that Preston and Mara were going to be life flighted to Salt Lake City so that Preston could get 2 brain surgeries and have the best chance possible to recover and live a normal life. Right before this We lost our insurance due to the poorly managed medicaid situation that so many Montanans are currently dealing with. we also learned that Mara wont be able to work anymore because our son will need constant attention and care to hopefully lessen whatever developmental issues he may have for the rest of his life. I had to stay in Billings because we were already buried with bills and couldn't afford to be with my family through this vulnerable tough time. its been almost 2 months and they are still in Salt Lake City. we are asking for help with getting caught up on both our absurd amount of medical bills and rent. i applied for help through the state and still have not received any. its really hard for me to ask others to donate because i like to handle my own affairs and i know times are tough for so many people right now. but at this point i dont have a choice and have to swallow my pride and ask for the kindness of our community. anything helps and thank you all. god bless.
