Help provide a home for Pam and her family

My name is Abby Travers and I attend St. George’s School of Veterinary Medicine on the Caribbean Island of Grenada. I am starting a GoFundMe in hopes of raising enough money to help provide a home for my friend, Pam, and her four children. With Pam’s permission, I am here to share her story with the rest of the world. I want everyone to know Pam for the strong, loving, hardworking, and down-to-earth woman she is.

I met Pam in Grenada a little over a year ago and she has been a big part of my life ever since. She is well-known and loved by many students. She provides for her family by preparing individual meals for students during the week just outside of campus. She is one of the most diligent and genuine people I’ve ever met. Pam organized a group message with 200 students to not only upload a food menu each week, but she sends us encouraging good morning texts and prayers every day. Pam is the “Grenadian mom” to many of us. Her motherly warmth and kindness are appreciated while we are all so far from home.

One afternoon shortly after we met, Pam and I went to the beach and had dinner while she shared her story. She opened up to me about many of the obstacles in life she has overcome through the grace of God. She not only is a victim of repeated occurrences of rape and molestation but physical abuse and attempted murder, in which she is lucky to be alive. No one should ever have to go through what Pam has survived. Many years ago, Pam was provided a safe location on the island to raise her children. Due to legal issues that cannot be shared online, Pam and her four kids, are being forced out of their home on March 31, 2023. She has one month to build or buy a home in a safe location for her family. Although she has battled so much in her life, she has overcome unbearable pains and fears and continues to be a light for everyone around her.

After hearing Pam’s story, I went home and cried. Living in Grenada for the last year and a half has taught me so much. This country and the people in it truly puts many things into perspective. I realized how much we take for granted every day. Many of us wake up and complain about little things while some of the happiest people don’t have running water or air conditioning. Pam is one of those people.
