Water for Saint Vincent
VINCY NEEDS US ALL NOW.
On April 9, 2021, the volcano on Saint Vincent began a series of eruptions that continues to cover the island country in ash. With no end in sight, it's our goal to funds for the donation of water filtration and water products. We believe this will help us to meet both the immediate and and longterm needs of locals in this uncertain time.
WHAT WE KNOW.
Geographically, over half of the island has been evacuated and moved into shelters. As of April 17, 87 shelters house 4,166 persons and 3,178 persons are housed in private shelters. Ashfall has impacted the entire island and has even been found on the shores of Barbados. It has covered homes, water supplies and food sources, causing water to be undrinkable. Entry points to the island are limited since ash can cause engine failure.
WHAT WE'RE DOING.
⭐ In just one week, we were able to secure a donation of $5,000 USD and immediately ship over 16,000 bottles of water to Saint Vincent. Building on this momentum and seeing the continuing impact of the ash on the island, we increased our donation goal and have committed to shipping an additional 48,000 water bottles this month. With more donations, we hope to provide additional shipments of bottled water as needed.
⭐ We've been able to secure the donation of water filtration products as well as a price discount of up to 50% for additional products from LifeStraw. LifeStraw is committed to providing sustainable water filtration products in response to emergencies and disasters across the globe. Their products filter 99.99% of ash particles out of water and provide thousands of gallons of water to communities and shelters. We have 3 LifeStraw Communitys, 40 LifeStraw Familys and 47 LifeStraw Mission 12L en route to Saint Vincent. With more donations, we hope to provide additional water filtration systems as needed.
⭐ We're partnering with a shipping company from Miami to get items down and into the hands of Vincentians at a faster rate.
⭐ We're using our networks to connect with the most underserved people of the island, including the Indigenous people of St. Vincent who occupy the areas most heavily affected by the volcano. 70% of water products we achieve through donations will be given directly to local NGOs, including the SVG Red Cross, Rotary Clubs and Lions Clubs. We're hearing stories of people who have depleted their water supplies after taking in others who have been displaced, and we're working to get help to these people and others who we've connected with.
Whether you choose to donate to our campaign or another, we thank you for continuing to help Vincentians through this difficult time. Together, we are VINCY STRONG.
No tax receipts will be issued for donations to this cause.
