Help provide essential PPE for NHS
Donation protected
The Fashion School started their journey of providing PPE for the NHS after being contacted directly by their local hospital, The Royal Brompton. Over the span of a few weeks, we now have 2 sites. We have recently opened a workspace at The Royal Free Hospital, where Caroline Gration’s (Director) daughter is a Doctor leading a Covid-19 ward.
At each venue we currently have approximately 32 machinists, 12 cutters, 8 folders/packers and 4+ hospital staff, working 7 days a week. The combined volunteer list is in the 100s and they are working in sanitized work spaces which enable social distancing. Our initial aim was 500 gowns a day and we recently managed 705!!
We have also been able to advise other hospitals such as St Barts, Homerton and Care Homes. The surgical gown pattern, was created by Caroline, has now been digitalised and is now available as a free download, complete with technical and set up information.
The Fashion. School’s business ethos is based entirely around sustainability and therefore we are also researching into how we can move away from single use gowns and use medical certified fabric which can be washed and reused. This fabric will be another cost factor in the future.
We are not sure how long we will continue to be in the situation but we want to continue to do all that we can to help. The Fashion School, is a small business but has provided the majority of materials, equipment and haberdashery. We are looking for donations to be able to keep doing this. Money provided will be used to help with running costs, such as petrol, machine hire, some staff wages and any additional materials and haberdashery needed.
