Help Provide Food Aid to Typhoon Victims - PH
Hi, I'm Vince Mojares and please help me help the communities and victims of recent Typhoons that caused and continuously causing havoc in my home country, Philippines.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As you may or may not have heard or seen, the Philippines is currently experiencing one of the strongest typhoons ever recorded to hit the country, Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco). It began pummelling Luzon, the largest island in the country from the 11th of November destroying houses, businesses, and agriculture. As a result, it left neighbourhoods submerged and people appealing for aid and rescue. Bicol, in particular, was the first to face Ulysses' wrath, as the typhoon triggered massive floods in parts of the region. However, it doesn't stop there. Prior to typhoon Ulysses, the Philippines was also struck by two other natural disasters, also considered to be 'super' typhoons, being Quinta and Rolly. Typhoon Quinta (Molave) blew the country and made landfall on the Southern Island of Luzon as of late October. It flooded rural villages, left hundreds at sea stranded, left at least 13 people missing, and displacing thousands of villagers from their homes. But as if that wasn't enough, Typhoon Rolly (Goni) battered the Philippines right after Quinta with destructive winds and torrential rain. It first made landfall in the Philippines on the 2nd of November, hitting Bato, Catanduanes; Tiwi, Albay; San Narciso, Quezon; and my hometown, Batangas. Rolly severely damaged more than 10,000 houses in Catanduanes alone and forcing around 1 million residents in Bicol to flee from their homes.
The Philippines is a country no stranger to natural disasters with approximately 20 tropical cyclones entering the country yearly. We can see how much it affected the lives of countless families and individuals leaving more than a million individuals without food, water and shelter: and destroying hectares of cropland, leaving many also without a source of livelihood. Just from Rolly alone, in the numbers, 1.2 million affected population in 8 regions, 135,259 individuals displaced in evacuation centres, and 37,191 individuals displaced outside evacuation centres. However, this year alone, these tropical cyclones weren't the only ones that damaged the country, as it also encountered another natural disaster, being the Taal Volcanic Eruption on January 12. To make things worse, as of this moment, there have been 409, 574 recorded cases and 7,839 deaths from Coronavirus.
WHAT IS NEEDED AND WHAT AM I PROPOSING?
Due to everything that's been happening as I mentioned from the above, I am then taking this opportunity and time to hopefully do what I can to help those in need and are affected by the typhoons Quinta, Rolly, and Ulysses. The havoc caused by these typhoons left many individuals and families with lack of access to food. As a result, I am partnering up with Rise Against Hunger Philippines, a hunger relief organisation that distributes food and life-changing aid to the most vulnerable. Rise Against Hunger Philippines is appealing to individuals, groups and corporations for support in order to respond to the crises brought about by consecutive natural disasters that displaced hundreds of thousands of Filipino families recently.
With thousands in evacuations centres across the typhoons' corridor, Rise Against Hunger Philippines aims to provide them immediate relief in the form of food aid. They are also partners with Globe Telecom, San Miguel Foundation, and the numerous other private individuals who believe in their mission of giving food security—and hope—to our countrymen in need. They were also able to distribute meal packs and personal care products to 447 families in Baseco, Tondo who were affected by recent disasters. Their relief efforts are ongoing as they've also turned over meal packs (each pack good for 8 adults), canned goods, and medicine to the LGU to distribute to 288 families temporarily sheltered in Concepcion Elementary School in Marikina. They've managed to support four locations, three towns, 175 boxes of meal packs for nearly 6,300 families affected by #UlyssesPH. They've just finished their relief distribution in Marikina, Cainta, and Rodriguez in Rizal. And they're only getting started. They're now mobilising their resources to help Cagayan Valley. Moreover, from March 16 to October 31, 2020, they have served a total of 56,045 families and are continually doing everything they can especially during this calamity. Therefore, this GoFundMe has been set up by me in order to raise and provide funds which will all go towards Rise Against Hunger Philippines and hopefully help them to provide further food aid to those in deep need of these resources.
WHY AM I DOING IT?
As a Filipino man myself, it's heartbreaking to see what these recent events did to my homeland and its people as the most vulnerable are the ones that are hit the hardest yet they are the ones least accountable. Being a Batangueño, it's incredibly saddening to see residents lose the most valuable things they own and have while also fighting for their lives to survive. I can only imagine what it feels like being in the Philippines right now, most especially the cities that have been extremely affected so I want to use this opportunity to help so that those who are vulnerable can recover and survive.
It’s extremely important for us to maintain and increase awareness with what’s happening to continue to stay educated and help those in need. There needs to be a genuine understanding and an appreciation of the needs and wants of the people in the society. To accomplish this, we must CARE.
We are living through challenging times, more so than others, and so, I am asking for your empathy, kindness, and generosity. Your donation, big or small, can help many Filipinos with the basic necessities, in this instance, food.
Many thanks for all of your support and donations! Remember, there is no such thing as a small donation. We really Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God Bless.
