Help Jim & Anne recover from 2 catastrophic hurricanes
Donation protected
On the evening of Thursday, September 26, our parents, Anne and Jim, lost their home and their only vehicle to catastrophic flooding in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Due to their location, they were unable to obtain flood insurance and their insurance company considers a hurricane an “act of God” which is a non-covered event. This means they do not have any insurance benefits available to help them cover the significant costs involved in recovering from this disaster.
In the wake of the destruction, our parents have been displaced from their home and are currently staying in an AirBnB and all of their belongings that were able to be saved have been moved into a storage unit. Of course, this is not the best long term solution as it involved significant and ongoing costs! To make matters worse, Jim suffers from Parkinson’s disease and has significant mobility and cognitive impairment so staying in an unfamiliar home has been incredibly challenging for him and for Anne, who is his primary caretaker.
Brendan and I are hoping to use this campaign to raise money to help relocate our parents into a safe and stable long term living space and to secure skilled nursing services to help care for Jim to give Anne some relief from the day to day care she has currently been providing. All donations will be used toward providing disaster relief, housing costs and caregiving support for Jim.
Thanks in advance for any support you are willing or able to provide. We are so grateful for it all.
