Nine years ago, I was asked by my parents’ church to speak on women’s issues for their “Women’s Day” service. While I was an experienced speaker, this topic was not my forte’, so I was stumped trying to come up with a talk.
As I lay in bed one morning praying about what to speak on, it came to me quite clearly: I needed to speak about Jesus’ perception of women based on how He related to them.
Jesus, the Ultimate Ladies’ Man is the result of that talk, and it examines Jesus’ interactions with ten women—from the woman with the issue of blood to the sinful woman who anointed Him with oil.
From His interactions, we find answers to these kinds of questions: How did He relate to them? Did His actions fall in line with cultural expectations? Was He dismissive and disrespectful or inclusive and encouraging?
Spoiler alert: He loved and cherished and valued women. He engaged them and respected them in a culture that diminished them. But His influence didn’t stop there. Everywhere that Christianity has spread throughout the world, the status of women has been elevated. Foot binding of women in China? Gone, thanks to the influence of Christian missionaries. And that’s just one example.
Writing this book has changed me. I have loved Jesus since I was a little girl but examining Him in such a detailed manner gave me even more respect and joy to follow Him than I had before. I am excited to share who He is with the world.
I started writing this book nine years ago. Nine years ago. It’s been mostly finished for many years, and I have wrestled with guilt over it not yet being published. After all, how is Jesus being glorified through this book if it remains on my computer? That has been my guilty thought for years, yet I felt stuck…
Until some friends urged me to self-publish about 6 months ago, and I felt a holy fire spark within me. I made the final pass through with a second friend editing, yet I still felt sadness for nine lost years.
Could the delay, though, be God-ordained so that Jesus, the Ultimate Ladies’ Man is released for such a time as this?
Do you remember the story of Esther? She was the Jewish woman who won the global beauty pageant and became Queen of Persia. Not long after her rise, another powerful man, Haman, became enraged over a Jewish man and asked the King to kill all the Jews. Not knowing his own wife was a Jew, the King agreed, so it was up to Esther to save her people. Her uncle reminded her, “And who knows whether you have attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14) Her bravery and their rescue are still celebrated by the Jewish people to this day.
Today, the physical survival of women may not be explicitly at stake, but the identity of womanhood certainly is. Our society is quickly devolving, and the agenda of some threatens to erase who women are. Look at the evil and desperate attempts that have been made to redefine what is a woman.
This is ungodly! In fact, Jesus didn’t come to erase women but to elevate them to their God-given station—neither above men, nor below men, but as coheirs with men (I Peter 3:7).
My prayer is that this book will be used by God to clarify for the Church and culture Who Jesus is and consequently how women are to be rightly viewed and treated.
In the last month, I have had several important meetings with both a professional editor and a graphic designer/book designer and have decided to move forward with both. As soon as I officially start the process, I should have a printed copy of Jesus, the Ultimate Ladies' Man in my hands within 2-3 months! I can't believe it.
That brings me to you.
Will you join with me in bringing this book to the masses?
I am raising money to cover the cost for professional editing, book cover design, interior formatting, marketing, etc. If you have watched The Chosen, you are familiar with crowd-funding and the power of coming together to advance the Gospel through the spoken (or written) word. I truly believe God is going to use this book in powerful ways.
Most of all, please pray. Pray for wisdom as I move forward. Pray for my partners who are helping to make the book clear and beautiful. And please pray that the message of Jesus shines through my words.
