Help Que Rico Recover from Devastating Break-In

Valentino Carrillo Owner of popular LGBTQ+ space Que Rico Nightclub in Downtown Oakland is pissed after the 10th break-in to his business in the past 3 years. Que Rico was broken into this past Tuesday at 4:23 am with an estimated $25k-$30k in damages and stolen alcohol. To make matters worse one of the officers had mentioned to Mr. Carrillo that there were 2 cars the speed right past them going the opposite way down the one-way street as they were approaching and the officers believed they were leaving the scene, but because of the City of Oakland’s no chase laws the officers could not purse the suspects.

Over the past 3 years Mr. Carrillo estimates he has lost over $100k in making repairs including replacing pos systems, expensive windows, doors, alcohol, replacing safes, a torched open ATM and more. Que Rico stopped leaving cash on site years ago after the first few break-ins, so the perps usually go after the high-end alcohol that is at the Bar.

Mr. Carrillo is calling on City Hall to step up and do more for small businesses before more leave due to the crime in Oakland. Mr. Carrillo is urging City Council Members to get rid of the No Chase Ordinance in Oakland so the Police can do their jobs and get these criminals behind bars and to do more night patrols in Downtown Oakland in areas that have been hit the most recently.

Mr. Carrillo is asking for community support after this last break in to help make his establishment more secure and safe for patrons as well as to help cover cost of repairs and damages caused.
