My name is Quebert Williams, a 20-year-old from the island of Montserrat, located in the Caribbean. I lived and grew up on this beautiful island for 19 years until moving to the United States in pursuit of a better education. My academic journey began at Montserrat Secondary School, where I graduated with 8 O-Levels and later completed 3 A-Levels, achieving a total of 11 subjects.
I have a deep passion for technology, particularly the rapidly evolving fields of artificial intelligence and innovation. I am fascinated by the endless possibilities that A.I. and advanced technology hold for shaping the future. Beyond academics, I also have a strong love for sports
and physical fitness, which have been significant aspects of my life.
For nine years, I played soccer and had the privilege of representing my island in various competitions. As a pre-teen and teenager, I traveled to different Caribbean islands, including Antigua and St. Kitts and Nevis, to compete in under-15 tournaments. These experiences taught
me the value of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. Unfortunately, my soccer journey was paused due to a head injury. Despite this setback, I remained committed to staying active. I discovered a new passion for swimming and spent countless joyful days at the beach with
friends.
Moving to the United States has been a transformative experience, presenting me with new challenges and opportunities. My Caribbean upbringing has instilled in me a strong sense of community, perseverance, and adaptability qualities that continue to guide me as I navigate my educational and personal growth journey.
I attended New York City College of Technology (NYCCT) for one semester, where I achieved a grade point average of 3.4 in the field of Computer Engineering Technology. During my time at
NYCCT, I participated in several workshops that enhanced my academic and personal growth.
These included a Resume Building workshop, CT-101, a program designed to help new students navigate college life and explore the resources available and the MAT-1275 workshop, which
provided an early advantage in tackling math courses before the semester began.
I also spent a significant amount of time at the NYCCT gym, where I was practically there every day. I enjoyed working out, playing games like pool and table tennis, and socializing with other students. These activities allowed me to make many new friends and meet interesting individuals, enriching my overall college experience.
During my semester at NYCCT, I earned 12 credits as a full-time student. However, my primary challenge has been covering the cost of tuition. The total tuition for the semester was approximately $7,000, and I currently have an outstanding balance of $5,560, which I am struggling to pay. My father was supposed to assist me with the tuition, but he faced financial
hardships due to an ongoing legal case involving the Governor. The court has yet to release the funds owed to him, which would have significantly helped me cover my expenses.
As the January 25th registration deadline approaches, I am deeply concerned about the possibility of missing a semester. This would be a major setback for me, both academically and in terms of my immigration status within the United States. I am determined to find a solution, as
continuing my education without interruption is essential for my future.
