Help Queer Artists' Replace Our Destroyed Gear
Donation protected
Please note these funds will provided to Night Shift co-founder Jason for the gear replacement as well as to help cover legal costs. Apparently there’s been some confusion as to allocation so for transparency’s sake we will be providing receipts for the new gear purchased. Thanks to everyone who’s supported us so far - we appreciate you all.
I want to preface this by saying a massive thank you to the LGBTQ2IA++ community and everyone else who’s reached out for all the kind words, offers of support and love shown since going public with this Saturday.
On Thursday, April 14th following our gig at Nightowl Toronto, the owner got into a rage. He proceeded to throw boxes of random things around the bar and scream to the point the upstairs neighbour came down to assess the situation which quickly turned into a physical altercation between the two of them, at which point my girlfriend and I left.
Upon our leaving, he proceeded to threaten to throw the DJ gear we house there for our weekly event outside. those threats quickly turned into a reality after trying to convince him through multiple calls to please not do so. He destroyed the gear, leaving it outside for us to find in pieces. Jason, co-founder of the event series got out of bed and rushed back to the bar to find the gear all unrepairable on the ground outside. We tried to keep this private temporarily to hopefully have them replace the gear but after multiple attempts to have this rectified its become clear that’s not something they are willing to do.
On top of the issue with the destruction of our property and the death threat he uttered, Nightowl is supposed to be a safe place for the LGBTQ2IA+ community and unfortunately, it’s not in my opinion after hearing the homophobic and transphobic statements hurled at me that night.
That all said, we are out 2 x CDJ 2000 NXS and one DJM 900 NXS2 mixer, I’ve started this fundraiser to help cover the costs of replacing the gear as well as some of the fees we will incur to get the accountability from Nightowl that is deserved here.
After 2+ years of a pandemic as artists, we simply don't have the means ourselves to replace the gear on our own. We want to get back to doing our shows within the community we love as quickly as possible. Thanks for reading through all of this, we really appreciate you all so much.
