Help Queer Household Escape Alt-Right Hotbed
Donation protected
Help Gayhaus get out of a hotbed of alt-right activity!
We are a household of three queer individuals living in a very conservative area of Utah, which we've recently discovered is also a base of operations for the alt-right group, the Oath Keepers. While I want to maintain some privacy for the safety of myself and my household, I can say we personally know members of this group in our area and have had negative encounters-- discrimination at work, having threats written on our car, witnessing instances of targeted harassment and intimidation towards other LGBTQ+ individuals in our community. It is an unsafe living environment.
But quite recently, one of us has been offered a job in a state and area that is highly ranked for LGBTQ+ safety and equality. This is fantastic news! However, it also means we have just 28 days to move all our belongings across the country in what will be at least 40 hours of driving. Along the way, we’re helping a trans friend escape his own dangerous area in Florida and move in with us.
The financial burden of this move is immense. A U-Haul truck or moving company will cost at least $4,000, gas for our cars around $600, the first month's rent $3-4,000, and the deposit $2,000. There are also hotels, food, and other small but necessary expenses. Your donation of $50 will cover a night's stay in a hotel, while $200 will help us with gas for the long drive!
We are incredibly grateful for any support you can offer. Your contribution will help us move to a safer environment where we can simply live our lives without fear. Despite these tumultuous times, we are constantly humbled by the kindness of community and strangers alike. Your aid means more to us than words can express.
