Help Rachel Get Back on Her Feet After Illness & Job Loss

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out on behalf of my niece Rachel O'Keefe, who has been through an incredibly tough journey over the past few years. She’s always been strong and independent, usually not one to ask for help, but right now, she truly needs it.

Since 2021, she has been battling severe health issues, unable to keep food down, leading to multiple hospital stays and a drastic weight loss of 120 lbs. After years of struggling for answers, she was finally diagnosed with gastroparesis in 2023. She tried various treatments, and in April 2024, she underwent surgery to have a gastric stimulator implanted, similar to a pacemaker for the stomach. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, and she continued to be in and out of the hospital, too sick to work.

Her employer supported her as much as they could, but after exhausting her FMLA coverage, she was no longer able to maintain her work schedule and lost her job in July 2024. Despite using up all of her savings and applying for every form of assistance available, it hasn’t been enough to cover her living expenses.

In November 2024, she had to have a permanent feeding tube placed after continued weight loss. Though it took multiple attempts due to complications, it finally seems to be working! She is now stable and has been able to secure a full-time job starting Monday—a huge step toward regaining her independence!

But right now, she is in a difficult place financially. She is short on rent and in debt from months of medical and living expenses. She has a wonderful supportive boyfriend and 4 year old daughter with her own health issues that will also benefit. We are asking for $5,000 to help her cover her immediate needs while she transitions back into employment.

She has come so far despite everything and is determined to move forward. Any donation, big or small, would make a world of difference in helping her get back on her feet.
