Support Rachel During Her Recovery: The Bitch Has Cancer
Hi, my name is Rachel. You probably know me from Heaven’s Gate, the Philly venue I’ve been running for the last 12 years, and as the bitch behind Stroker. On February 10th, I got the unexpected news that a biopsy I had done tested positive for cancer. After talking to doctors at Penn Medicine, I was told I have (hopefully) stage one cancer, so I need a partial radical vulvectomy. While the surgery should give us a clearer picture of what’s going on, we won’t know if it’s more serious until after it’s done. If it turns out to be worse, I’ll need to go from there with treatment.
I’m positive and hopeful for the best outcome and quick recovery, but no matter what happens, I need some time to heal up. The doctors are optimistic that after surgery and a few weeks of rest, I can get back to my normal life. However, I won’t be able to work during this time, and I’m reaching out to my community for support.
My goal is to raise $7,000 to cover for missed work and daily expenses during my recovery. Your contribution, even if it’s a couple bucks, will help me focus on healing without the added stress of financial burden.
For those who aren’t able to donate, I totally get it – sending me good thoughts and lighting a candle is just as powerful. Every little bit of support counts, and I appreciate all of it more than words can express.
I’m lucky to be surrounded by a close group of friends during this time, and as Chrissy says, “Rachel has created a haven for the Philly experimental arts community, offering us not just a place to perform, but a space to build family, have some nutty ass nights, and express ourselves freely. She’s given us the space to make legendary moments, and now it’s our turn to support her.”
Your support means everything to me, and I won’t ever forget it. I’m grateful to be in such a wild, caring, thoughtful community. I hope to be back on my feet, making art, and having shows again soon, and your help will make that recovery process possible. Please consider donating, sharing this campaign, or simply sending love my way.
Thank you for your generosity and care. I love you all so much!
