Help Save The Home My Dad Built From Foreclosure

I am hoping to *surprise* (shhh! ;) my dad by raising enough money to save the home my dad built from foreclosure. I don’t love asking for money, but two wise women convinced me that a gofundme is a gofundmust.

In 1999, lot 6 was a field of weeds and prairie grass, but someday it would become our home. At the time, we were 10 people in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom townhouse. The impossible was going to become real- two of us would get to have our own room!

Raising 9 kids on a single salary wasn’t easy, my dad worked tirelessly to take care of us all. In 2023, he was laid off from his job after 30+ years there. When he lost his job, he knew the house would be at risk. With the rocky job market, it took him until fall of 2024 to land a job.

My dad isn’t someone who asks for help—he gives it. Over the years, he's always been a resource for people who need a new ‘hack' or a good deal. He's helped many people fix their cars, and paid to repair our garage door after someone he was helping drove through it. Even while he was unemployed, he allowed three people to live in the home rent free.

His parents were hard workers who believed the American Dream could be real for Black people. They were determined to do what seemed impossible. They planted seeds that my parents have watered; my family loves helping people believe that they can plant those seeds for themselves.

The funds we raise will be used to get the house out of foreclosure. Most importantly, it will give him the dignity of deciding the home’s future on his own terms— and hopefully restore his belief in the importance of possibility.
