Help Rachel with Post-Surgery Expenses
Donation protected
As many of you know, our dear friend Rachel Cannady, UTSA Libraries’ subject librarian for UTSA COEHD and Counseling & Online Learning Librarian, lover of dogs, God’s Dogs foster/rescue extraordinaire-and best friend, aunt, sister, and daughter-had an accident while teaching on Thursday, August 10th at the UTSA Downtown Campus.
She was rushed to Metropolitan Methodist ER where they conducted a CT scan and an MRI later that same day. The CT scan revealed a fractured L1 vertebra. There were also vertebral fragments in her spinal column. Diagnosed with an unstable spine, she was admitted and stayed for a week while doctors evaluated her.
Rachel has endured intense pain while her medical team has tried to determine the best path forward. While doctors were able to manage her pain with morphine and narco, we knew spinal surgery was imminent.

On Thursday, August 17th, Methodist transferred Rachel to their Main Methodist campus, and on Monday, August 21st, she underwent a laminectomy: the fusion of two rods to adjacent vertebrae to stabilize her L1 fracture.
Rachel’s care team expects many months of recovery ahead. And today she continues to endure intense pain while undergoing post-surgery physical therapy.
Rachel’s friends often tell her she needs to put herself first: but this is difficult for someone like Rachel who has a Texas-sized heart! You have all seen Rachel pour her heart into fostering for God’s Dogs Rescue: from bottle-feeding puppies to providing a warm, loving, and final home for elderly and terminal rescues.

As Rachel's friends, we want to support her as she prioritizes her health and recovery. She will use these funds to help curtail post-op expenses.
We hope you will join us as we circle Rachel with love and support as she heals.
Thank you for your love for Rachel: be it through donations, shares of this page, prayers, or good vibes! We welcome them all, and so appreciate your consideration to support and share this effort.
