Hi friends!
As a chronically ill and disabled person, navigating the world outside of my home has always been a struggle. I lost my income and health insurance since being laid off at the start of the pandemic, and my mobility and pain have gotten so much worse with no access to treatment or medication. My disability affects my entire body and there are days when I am in so much pain, even using a cane is not enough.
I also had to let go of my car at the end of May and adjusting to not being able to travel independently has been hard, especially with the current health risks that come with taking rideshares or public transit (I am also immunocompromised, yay!). Having limited mobility and feeling trapped in my apartment while self-isolating has really taken its toll on my mental health. These days, it takes a great deal of effort to even get out of bed, let alone leave my apartment. I really miss being outdoors and being able to run errands without being laid up in pain for a few days.
Deciding to get a mobility scooter has made me confront a lot of feelings about my body and my disability. I’ve spent so much of my life minimizing my own pain and the space I take up out of fear of being a burden to others, but I’m tired of living like this. No one should have to live like this. I know getting a mobility scooter is the right decision for me. Unfortunately, it is also a very expensive decision.
The funds raised will be used to purchase the TravelScoot Deluxe (+ sales tax and GFM fees) which will meet my needs of a high weight capacity, as well as being lightweight and able to be folded down to fit in my micro apartment when not in use.
It is officially my birthday month and I know this is a huge ask, but I am really hoping y’all can help me make my dreams of owning a mobility scooter finally come true. You would be helping me tremendously in reclaiming my mobility and increasing my quality of life.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
