Help Rachel's Family Navigate Medical Crisis
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Patrick Dixon, and my wife, Veronica Kessler and I are fundraising to help our dear friend Rachel Walden and her family navigate a catastrophic injury Rachel suffered six days ago at her home. She was up late and working on her computer when she heard a popping sound from her cordless vacuum that was in its charging station. When she got up and walked over to investigate, it exploded and caught her on fire. Her husband, Grey Brogdon heard her screams and rushed to her, only to find her frantically ripping off her burning clothes and the vacuum in flames. He threw the vacuum outside, helped Rachel and called 911. When she was taken to the local Olympia hospital, she was diagnosed with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 12% of her body, primarily on her right side, and she was sent to the Harborview Hospital Burn Unit in Seattle, where she will remain for at least two months. She was operated on that day, and had another operation yesterday for debridement (removal of dead tissue) and cleansing, and skin grafts. She will likely have several more operations in her future. Her daughter Denali tells us she is in good spirits despite this horrific accident. Both Denali and Grey have been staying with her or visiting daily, and plan on continuing to do so until she comes home. In all, this family needs support for medical bills not covered by insurance, Denali's loss of income, and the travel and lodging expenses they expect to incur over the next eight weeks. Anything that you can give to help them is greatly appreciated.
