I'm thrilled to be raising $10K for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). This nonprofit is doing cutting-edge research to legalize MDMA for the treatment of PTSD, which affects 350 million people globally and 9 million here in the United States. The FDA has already named MDMA a breakthrough therapy for PTSD because of MAPS' work, and the treatment could gain federal approval for therapeutic use in 2023. Although this illness disproportionately impacts our military service members, PTSD is very common among the general population as well. With anxiety, suicide, and depression on the rise, finding alternative approaches to heal our mental health is vital.
Why this matters to me.
This fundraiser is deeply personal to me. My dad was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. Growing up in a household with a vet, I saw firsthand the internal battle many veterans face when they return and try to get back to their lives. While my dad had a support system that allowed him to transcend some of the challenges and be a wonderful father, not all veterans are as lucky to return to a community and family that can catch them.
