Help Ramona Continue Her Fight Against Stage IV Cancer

Your Support Can Make a Difference

I’m reaching out on behalf of my dear friend and beloved family member, Ramona, who has been courageously battling Stage IV Endometrial/Serous Uterine Cancer since her diagnosis late last year. Despite the late-stage diagnosis and numerous setbacks, including medical providers not taking her symptoms seriously enough to diagnose her, and delayed chemotherapy due to necessary dental surgery, Ramona remains steadfast in her fight for life.

At 66, Ramona is navigating this challenge alongside her 73-year-old husband, who, not long before her unexpected diagnosis, suffered a massive heart attack and coded three times. Though he’s slowly recovering, he is still grappling with the possibility of cognitive impairment due to oxygen deprivation as result of the coding. With her husband unable to be her primary caregiver, Ramona’s daughter has stepped in to provide full-time support.

The emotional and financial toll on their family has been overwhelming. While Ramona’s spirit is resilient, the medical bills are mounting far beyond what her insurance covers. With out-of-pocket expenses slowly reaching $10,000 to date, the costs for ongoing immunotherapy, chemotherapy, scans, and supplements continue to rise. For instance, her out-of-pocket for PET scans every three months are $370.92 each, while her necessary dental treatments add $240 monthly. Her rent has been raised three times, totaling an additional $400 since 2023. For a couple living on a fixed retirement income, these expenses are devastating.

Ramona’s Journey to Diagnosis: A Story of Courage and Determination

Ramona’s journey has been nothing short of challenging. Just one month after her husband’s heart attack, despite her persistent reports of pain in her abdomen, she was hospitalized with severe symptoms that were repeatedly dismissed as heart-related since she was diagnosed in 2014 with heart failure and now wears a defibrillator implant. After being sent home with no answers, Ramona continued to push for a diagnosis. It was not until she noticed a lump (lymph node) near her collarbone and sought help from an ENT that a biopsy was ordered, revealing cancer.

Diagnosed with metastasized Stage IV Serous Uterine Cancer, Ramona’s journey toward treatment was unfortunately further delayed due to months of red tape.

Now, Ramona has completed her first intensive course of chemotherapy (six rounds over three months) and multiple rounds of immunotherapy. Her doctors describe her healing as truly miraculous, a testament to her unwavering faith and fighting spirit. Still, she has more treatments ahead and will struggle to continue without financial help.

Why We Need Your Support Now

Ramona has always been the person who gives freely to others—through her ministry work, her guidance, and her care; and doesn't ask for anything in return, always relying on her faith to sustain her. But today, she needs us. She needs her community to stand with her during this time of extraordinary need.

Here’s How You Can Help:
