Please help Randy get back to his active life!

I am starting this fundraiser for a friend. For as long as I have known him, he has always put other people first. If you needed help with a home repair or a project, he was always the first to volunteer. Now he finds himself in need and I for one want to help. To that end I’m starting this fundraiser. I ask that he tell you, his story.

My name is Randy Archer I have been married to my wife (Barbara) for forty-seven years. Over the years we have tried to be good neighbors and community minded. We were involved in the local little league as coaches and team mothers. I was honored to be the league president for a time. I also spent 10 years as the chairperson for the local parks and recreation center.

We bought our current home 20 years ago. The house being 40 years old at the time needed upgrading everywhere. We started with the new windows and the outside first. Adding a front porch and siding all around. Just a few years back Barbara and I re-roofed the house after rewiring the kitchen for the remodel we working on at the time. This done, the inside is something we can enjoy.

2021 Rehab Center after my fall

Over the last several years I have encountered several medical problems. They found an aneurysm in my abdomen that needed repair. They put several stints in the veins near my heart. Cancer in my bladder was removed successfully. Then an unrelated cancer in my tongue needed a special surgeon, now 3 years with no new symptoms. In 2021, putting up Christmas lights I fell 10 feet when the ladder shifted, that laid me up for almost 5 months.

2023 Amputation

A few months ago, I developed some pain in my left leg when walking. It was found that there was a blockage in the artery in back of my knee. This was not fixable, so I began an exercise program to open other pathways for better blood flow at this time my right leg was pain free. Then one day after lunch I started to develop pain in the right leg. Within an hour or so it was almost unbearable. Finely, my wife took me to the hospital emergency room. Where it was found that I had sever blockages in the right leg. The doctors worked on me at that facility for 5 days before deciding that I needed a vascular specialist and sending me to a different hospital that could accommodate my needs. When I got there, they began to work on my leg within 30 minutes and over the next three days they operated on me several times to no avail. The damage was done so my leg was no longer viable. After informing me, they removed my right leg just above the knee.

Preparing for new leg

This brings us to the needs we have. It will cost several thousand dollars for a new prosthetic leg and though the insurance will cover some of the cost, we will still need to pay our share upon receiving the new prosthetic. The expenses just start there, if I want to drive again, I will need to have some hand controls installed on the vehicle. Additionally, any maintenance projects that may come up, which I would normally do myself, will cost quite a bit more since I will need to hire outside help to get them completed.
If Barbara and I wish to not spend the rest of our retirement living hand to mouth, we will need a little financial help. Thanks to my friends maybe we can be blessed with this help.
