Help Rasmey Kong Achieve His Dream and Potential
One of the little side projects I have going on is supporting a young, super-nice and humble guy named Rasmey Kong. Rasmey grew up in New Haven, the son of immigrants from Cambodia, and defied a LOT of odds and setbacks to become a star golfer. He won the Connecticut Open in 2019. It is incredibly hard to break through in professional golf, even if you have top talent, and especially if you are not connected or from a wealthy family. For the past six months, Rasmey has driven in his family's car with his mother and father from city to city around the country to play in what is called the "Monday qualifier" for that week's minor league golf event. Though the odds of making it into the tournament each week are super long, it's the clearest path to reaching his dream and potential. Over the last two weeks, they drove from Kansas (played well, but JUST missed making it into the tournament) to Maine last week (had a tough day) to Colorado today (played well, but not quite well enough). Now they're off to St. Louis for next Monday. To save money, they sleep in the car most nights and for practice he goes to driving ranges to find half-filled golf buckets that others have left behind. It's not a super noble giving effort - we're not eliminating poverty here - but it has been an exciting endeavor to help an awesome kid have his fair share at a shot a fulfilling a dream. And he is really, really close! Thank you for considering a contribution!
