Help RC pay his Medical Bills from COVID

Donation protected
This is our friend Rodney C. Smith, “RC”.  We believe everyone knows a guy like him.  He's unselfish, caring with un-rivaled, personal integrity & character.  RC would give you his last dollar and the shirt off his back, if he thought you needed it more than he.

An account from one of his closest friends, Lee: “I met RC a couple of years ago and when I unexpectedly needed to leave town and go back home for a friend’s funeral, I needed someone to stay at my home and watch over my dogs.  RC did not hesitate. What started out to be a few days, ended up being two weeks because I was snowed in at my sister’s house by a blizzard.  The extra time did not even phase RC as he continued to watch over my fur kids and my home.  He even walked my dogs twice a day!  To this day my dogs love RC.  Sometimes I think even more than me.”

He has helped numerous friends and acquaintances, including myself, fix their vehicles for the cost of just the parts.  Who does that?  RC does, without hesitation.  He even plays Santa at Christmas time bringing gifts to each of his friends.

He is a heavy equipment mechanic for an Australian based aggregate equipment manufacturer and runs their North American service unit.  This company, in their infinite wisdom, does not provide their US workers with any health insurance benefits. His salary is not lucrative enough to afford the high cost of individual health insurance. During this pandemic he has been forced to travel all over the country, as required by his job.  He has been to New Mexico four times in the last 6 months, alone. In mid-January 2021 he contracted COVID 19 on one of these trips, which morphed into COVID Pneumonia.  He was hospitalized on January 25th and has been in ICU battling this dreadful disease.  A decision was made on Feb 5th to intubate RC, in hopes that this would help his lungs recover and his O2 levels improve.  This has helped and he was taken off the ventilator Feb 8th.  His hospital bills continue to mount and it doesn’t seem that his employer with will step up to help.  They are the main reason for his increased exposure to contracting this disease, even with the precautions he was taking during his travels.

We want to attempt to alleviate this financial burden from his worries, so he can focus on his complete recovery and rehabilitation. RC also has no surviving family to lean on.

The media focuses on the spread and death toll of this disease, which is tragic and unprecedented, but what they do not mention is the devastating financial toll it takes on folks who are not fortunate enough to have employer subsidized health insurance.  The cost of treating this disease in a hospital is astronomical!  The charges start at $35,000 PER DAY in ICU! Even if RC recovers, the financial toll it will take on him will be tough to bare. Therefore, we started this Go Fund Me page in order to pay it back to a man, who unselfishly gives of himself to others, asking for nothing in return.  No donation is too small to make a difference for if we can reach enough kind-hearted people to give just a little bit here and a little bit there, the law of large numbers will do the rest.  Please help RC beat COVID 19 without wrecking him financially.  He would undoubtedly do the same for you in the blink of an eye.
