Hi everyone.
My name is Rebecca Farquharson, and I am a South African science graduate who recently graduated from Rhodes University with a BSc in Geology and Environmental Science with Honours, cum laude. I am, and always have been, passionate about nature and have felt a duty since childhood to be a steward of our natural environments. Growing up watching inspirations such as Sir Attenborough and Dame Goodall on TV, and experiencing life in the myriad of landscapes of Africa, my home, I cannot help but feel the need to be a part of the Sustainability movement, and would like to dedicate my career to it.
This year, I am fortunate enough to have been accepted for a Masters degree at Cambridge University - an MPhil in Holocene Climates. This degree effectively combines the two disciplines that I studied in my undergraduate degree through the study of climate proxies such as tree rings and ice cores for predicting future climate change conditions. I recently was awarded a Mandela-Magdalene Scholarship which covers the entirety of my tuition and have a loan for maintenance costs.
