Help Rebecca Elbrecht Afford Quality of Life
Donation protected
For 25 years, Rebecca was a mental health therapist who dedicated her life to helping others. She was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor 6 years ago at age 47. When Rebecca underwent surgery, she was told she would be fine and back at work within two months... but that was not the outcome. The surgeon removed more of the tumor than was anticipated, which left Rebecca paralyzed and blind on her left side. She lost her independence overnight-- forever losing her ability to bathe, dress, walk, drive, work or live alone. She will need 24-hr assistance for the rest of her life. Rebecca had been living with her mother and a live-in caregiver. But sadly, her mother passed away leaving Rebecca with an insurmountable burden and unable to afford the cost of the house and the caregiver on her own. She depleted her savings and although her family had been helping to supplement her expenses, that too was no longer viable. Rebecca's best option is to move to Belmont Village Assisted Living in Carol Stream, Illinois where her dog, Shayne is welcome! Otherwise, she would be forced to live in a state-run nursing home without her dog and a geriatric stranger as a roommate. This fundraising campaign is the only hope for her to live out her last years in dignity with her sweet companion, Shayne at her side-- at her best should the cancer return. Donations will be used to pay a $ 24,000 average annual out-of-pocket deficit to subsidize her insufficient social security and insurance benefits for: insurance co-pays and denials, unforeseen hospital stays, uninsured medical, vision and dental care; facility room and board, 24-hr assisted living care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, medication management, mobility aids, adaptive equipment, orthotics, equipment maintenance. If you are able, please give generously and with all your heart. We're depending on each and every one of you to please share this campaign across all platforms. https://gofundme.com/f/RebeccaandShayne
