Help Rebecca Mejia's Family in Crisis

Donation protected
My mother, Rebecca Mejia, had a stroke two weeks ago. The result was a small bleed on the left side of her brain, causing her dysphasia (difficulty swallowing). My mom was in the hospital for two weeks and was able to come home and spent her last two physical days at home with her family, most importantly her two grandsons, Thomas, 7, and Noah, 2.

On the 10th of November, I found her lifeless and full of vomit. Being in the animal medical field, I knew I needed to intervene and started performing CPR on my mother to the best of my ability. I continued for 4 minutes, which felt like forever, until the paramedics arrived. They proceeded with CPR for 10 minutes until my mom MIRACULOUSLY got a pulse back. Having only ever done it on animals, the CPR I performed actually worked and helped bring her back. She was then taken to ICU at Salinas Valley Hospital, where she was put on life support. Dr. Gray, the ICU doctor on site at the time, said we need to give the brain time to recover and reduce swelling, giving us a sense of hope. Fast forward 48 hours, and Dr. Cole, her current doctor, believes she is in a vegetative state and the machine is helping keep her oxygenated, thus leading to the belief that without it she will be incompatible with life. Tomorrow, 11/13, the plan is to take her off life support and let nature take its course. As I am still creating an aftercare plan, my family would appreciate any help and support we can get from the community during this difficult time. We appreciate everything.
