Help Rebuild a Hero’s Life: Support for Robert Lucas
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Hearts,
As most of you know, my name is Elizabeth. I lived on Ortega Highway for many years at Robert's ranch. He taught me everything I know about horses. I am here today to ask kindly for your help.
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a hopeful spirit to share the story of a true hero—my second dad, longtime friend, and mentor, Robert Lucas. At 70 years old, Robert recently faced an unimaginable tragedy when the devastating Airport fire ravaged the Orange County and Riverside County areas along Ortega Highway. In the face of this calamity, Robert showed extraordinary courage and selflessness. He stayed behind, bravely battling the fire with nothing but a water truck and hose for countless hours, despite the roaring flames. I want to point out that, Robert doesn't just rescue animals; he rescues people as well. Our small family here owes a great deal to him, as he saved this ranch, allowing the people who live here now to have a place to call home. Lucas Mountain Ranch Rescue has been more than just a sanctuary for horses and other animals—it has also served as a safe haven for countless people, including myself, providing refuge when we might have had nowhere else to turn.
His incredible determination and bravery allowed him to save around 25 horses and various barn animals, and he managed to protect his home from the blaze. Unfortunately, the fire caused significant damage to his ranch—destroying the riding arena, corrals, and many essential supplies. What was once a thriving sanctuary for animals is now a landscape of loss and devastation.
For Robert, this ranch and the animals he cares for are not just a part of his life; they are his life. He has dedicated decades to building and nurturing this haven. The work he has put into creating and maintaining this place is immeasurable, and it breaks my heart to see it reduced to ashes.
Rebuilding from such a loss is daunting, especially at his age. The physical demands, emotional strain, and financial burden are overwhelming. The total losses exceed $200,000. Despite his own devastating losses, Robert has been a beacon of hope for others. He has selflessly helped those who have lost everything, including providing a generator to the Lookout Road House restaurant and its owner, who is also a dear friend. Robert’s generosity extends beyond his own plight; he has rescued horses off the racetrack, as well as puppies, cats, and various animals in need.
While Robert is a pillar of strength and resilience, this challenge requires more support than one person alone can provide. Though he is not one to ask for help, his incredible spirit and dedication to others deserve all the support we can offer.
To aid in his recovery and rebuilding efforts, I’ve created this GoFundMe page. Your contributions will go directly towards:
Rebuilding the infrastructure that was lost, including the riding arena and corrals.
Covering veterinary bills for the animals he saved and continues to care for.
Replacing essential supplies needed to maintain the ranch and support the animals.
Every donation, no matter how small, will have a profound impact on his recovery. In addition to financial support, we welcome any offers of materials, expertise, or services that might assist in the rebuilding process. If you can’t contribute financially, please help by sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and social networks. Raising awareness and spreading the word is just as crucial in rallying support for Robert.
Robert has always been there for others, showing remarkable courage and compassion. Now it’s our turn to stand by him. Your support will not only help him rebuild what was lost but will also demonstrate that his community values and honors his heroic efforts.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and for being a part of Robert’s journey to recovery.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Lizzie
