Help Rebuild Shelbie’s Home After Hurricane Debby

Hello, I'm Shelbie / Bou (Frosted Caribou). I create Pokémon content online and I also commentate official events for the competitive Pokémon circuit. Last month I had to urgently evacuate my home as it flooded with dangerous amounts of toxic sewage water from Hurricane Debby.

Following the flood, I joined a team of volunteers to assist in demolishing the house. We removed all the damaged and mold-infested objects, walls, flooring, and even an entire bathroom that had been affected.

Since my location is not designated as a flood zone, I was not required to purchase flood insurance when buying the home. Unfortunately, despite my efforts, I have been unable to secure any financial assistance through my homeowner's insurance. All of my claims and appeals have been denied.

My area has not received any financial assistance from FEMA due to a lack of approval for qualified funding.

After a year of ownership, I used all my extra money to build my offices and renovate this house. My source of earning income has vanished, along with every penny I put into the house.

Since I can no longer afford a hotel, I'm currently sleeping on an air mattress in the house with an upstairs bathroom. This has been challenging because the house currently smells of mold and must, and there are a lot of dehumidifiers and fans drying it out, which makes breathing difficult.

To pay my bills and obtain money for repairs, I intend to seize as many employment opportunities as I can. This entails booking as many events to cast, and finding jobs locally while I wait to resume creating content.

To protect any future repairs, I paid $1,200 upfront for a year of flood insurance on my home.

Not including everything I lost in the house and all of my sentimental belongings that I cannot replace, contractor quotes for labor and supplies are estimated to be $50,000+.

All donations will go directly toward fixing my house to make it fully habitable and operational once more.
