Help Reopen Comics Plus

Donation protected

I’ve lived in Los Banos all of my life.  I grew up going to the comic shop as a kid, and even now as an adult.  Anyone else that grew up in this town likely has visited Comics Plus at one point or another, and whether you were a long time customer, someone who just browsed the shop occasionally, or a friend of Randy’s that just wanted to stop in and say hi, you knew OUR comic shop was something special.  I’ve been to many other comic shops throughout my life, and hands down, none of them come close to Comics Plus.

Randy Martin has owned and operated Comics Plus for 28 years here in Los Banos.  For those 28 years, his shop has provided a fun and inviting place for people of all ages to enjoy hobbies such as comic books, miniatures gaming, collectible cards, toys and action figures, and so much more.  Long time visitors aren’t just customers.  We met the caring and generous Martin family and got to know him as more than just a shop owner, but as a friend.

Events such as free comic book day are held annually to invite children and adults to come in and enjoy some free comic books, prize drawings, and a fun-filled afternoon at the comic shop.  Comics Plus has always been the one shop that you know you can find that perfect gift for a family member or friend.  If Randy didn’t have it, he would try to get it for you.

Sounds like a great place, right?  That’s because it is.  Or rather, I should say, was.  On August 20th, a fire broke out behind the shop, and Comics Plus was lost.  It’s hard to put into words how heartbreaking this is for our community.  Randy has always been there for his friends and customers with a smile, and a ‘take it easy’ on the way out the door.  Now it’s our turn to help make sure Comics Plus get back on its feet, and that this unique and one of a kind shop remains in our town.

I spoke with Randy and asked if he would be willing to reopen the shop, and he is.  I also got an idea of what he would need to get back on his feet and get the shop open again.  Funds would go towards replacing inventory lost in the fire that totaled over $100,000.  It will also go towards purchasing fixtures for inventory, as well as getting back into a storefront.

I know that a lot of us love Comics Plus, and not just people from here in town.  Many customers would come from all around to visit this great shop, so I know we can all come together to ensure Randy and Comics Plus returns better than ever.  Thank you so much for your help.  Anything you can give is greatly appreciated!
