Fire devastates Critter Kitchen-- Help Rebuild

Donation protected
The Critter Collective is a kitchen co-op at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, serving about twelve folks. They try hard to live simply, foregoing fossil fuels and cooking instead with sun and fire, providing an ever increasing amount of food from garden and barnyard, and generally making do with less.

Their timberframed summer kitchen has served them well since it was built in 2015, but early in the morning on November 3, disaster struck. An ember from a cook stove went unnoticed and smoldered until the hours of the early morning, when it eventually grew to a devastating fire that reduced the kitchen to ash.

The Critter kitchen has been relied on by the folks in the co-op, but also by the community for serving meals to visitor groups, hosting workshops, and providing a landing scene for work exchangers, friends, and guests.  The kitchen co-op has secured a temporary kitchen scene from which to cook for the immediate future, but needs help in rebuilding a new structure for coming seasons.

All donations will go directly to the kitchen to help with cleanup efforts and rebuilding.
Please help anyway you can. You can post words of encouragement and support—which can be very valuable.

Send love and take action

The first step to take in supporting them, is to let them know you’re there for them and will support them in whatever way you can through this crisis. A fire leaves people shocked and unsure about what to do next. Bringing them basic necessities or helping them find temporary cooking arrangements can be a great place to start helping.

Send money

In a fire, people sometimes lose everything—all the material possessions they’ve accumulated over a lifetime. While they may never be able to replace items with sentimental value, sending money in any amount is a simple way to help families rebuild their lives after a fire. If you have the means, offer whatever financial support you can to keep them afloat.

Bring a meal or buy groceries

It may be some time before they have refrigeration or a working kitchen. Depending on the situation, ask neighbors and others in your community to bring meals or non-perishable groceries to help out in the interim.

We at Rutledge Fire appreciate any help you can offer.
Sincerely
Chief Gil
