Help rebuild family home after Cobargo fires
Donation protected
The Cobargo fires are out (thankfully) but the rebuilding efforts continue for many people including my parents, Dave and Debbie Ross of Yowrie.
Mum and Dad lost their home over the New Year period as the bushfires raged through and caused so much devastation in Cobargo and surrounding areas. They were first evacuated on my Mum's birthday (29 Dec) and from there they were evacuated to three different locations (Cobargo, Bermagui and Narooma) before we could finally get them to our home in Canberra for them to seek respite.
Being Mum's birthday they had house guests including my two younger brothers, two nephews (aged 8 months and 10 years) and family friends. Getting 11 people and their dog to safety meant that there was not enough room in the cars for personal belonging and so sadly everything was lost as the fire roared through their property.
In the early days of this tragedy I asked my parents a few times if they would like me to start a Go Fund Me page and their answer was always no. Despite losing everything they didn't want to distract from money that could instead go to others who had lost their homes, their livelihood and/or their loved ones. These are the kind of people that my parents are.
Mum and Dad's farm is completely off the grid. Being on a rural property means that they don't have access to town water, electricity, etc. A few years ago they could finally afford to get a solar system installed and move away from their reliance on petrol and diesel generators. Thankfully this hefty investment in a solar system meant that they took out some home insurance which is more than many of their friends and neighbours had to rely on after the fires. While the insurance money will help them cover some costs, the harshness of reality has now shown that the insurance is insufficient to replace everything they lost - home, vehicles, machinery, chain saws, fencing, solar panels, water tanks and pump...the list goes on.
Any money raised through this page will go directly into re-establishing Mum and Dad on their property and to see their beautiful farm dog back on his property, running free and protecting his home. Any money that you can spare to help Mum and Dad will be gratefully accepted. It has taken a bit for Mum and Dad to realise that they need help of others to get everything back on track and they wish to thank each and every one fo you in advance for your thoughts and support.
