Help Rebuild Frank Garcia's Beloved Red Bluff Cabin

Donation protected
My name is Vicky, and I am not alone in our hope that we can rebuild Frank's precious and humble cabin. Frank Garcia is a friend to all in Redwood City. Frank went blind due to poor health care as an independent tradesman. Never have I met someone who took lemons and made lemonade the way Frank has. Despite no longer being able to see, or work, he remains one of the most positive and upbeat people we know.

Frank's cabin was his one thing. It was a place of great memories with his late father. It was the place where he could invite friends to enjoy a weekend in the country. Frank's cabin was a place that he could invite his friend's kids, Frank did not get to have any of his own, and experience nature despite their parents being too busy to take them. Frank's door was always open.

If you are wondering how Frank would make the long trek to Red Bluff I would like to explain. He would go by any means necessary. Train, bus, and a slew of buddies or their kids. The cabin was small and humble and incredibly familiar to Frank. He knew, by touch, where everything was.

The night that it was confirmed that Frank's cabin had burnt to the ground, a group of us decided to meet Frank at our favorite local bar for a drink, The Saddle Room. We were blown away that Frank seemed to be there to console the rest of us and not the other way around. He said this "You know, I haven't slept for 2 nights wondering if my house was gone. Now I can sleep because I know that it is." He then smiled and said "Man, we had some good times there."

I have never been to Frank's cabin. I have always though, been quite taken with the way this tiny place provided Frank company and somewhere to retreat to despite being blind and on dialysis. Frank had no insurance due to the insurance limitations in California making it impossible for Frank to pay for the CA Fair Plan and its rising costs while he only gets by on disability.

This fund is to help Frank rebuild. We have found a very affordable builder in Red Bluff. If we only raise enough to help haul away the rubble, then so be it. But I have a feeling we want to do this good thing for one of our dearest residents.
