Help the Erickson Family Rebuild After Hurricane Helene

Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share the devastating news about my brother, Travis Erickson, his wife Karen, and their two daughters, Melodie (17) and Biz (15). They have recently lost their home in the catastrophic floodwaters caused by Hurricane Helene.

When a dam broke upriver, the water rose to an astonishing 29 feet above normal levels, breaking the old record by 5.5 feet. The rushing currents swept away their two-car garage, along with all of Travis's cherished tools and recreational gear—snowboards, kayaks, canoes, and more. Tragically, their home was inundated with 5 feet of water and mud, leading to the foundation being washed away and the house being condemned. They lost so very much.

While we are grateful that everyone survived—along with their three dogs, one cat, a bearded dragon, four goldfish, and eleven chickens—the harsh reality is that they have no flood insurance to cover the loss of their home and belongings.

Currently, they are staying with our parents in Waynesville, NC, where they are safe. Unfortunately our parents property also sustained significant damage during the hurricane. There were multiple mudslides, their driveway is blocked, the bridge to the property was compromised and is not drivable, the house roof had multiple leaks and the cottage was flooded. This has further complicated the situation for Travis’s family as they seek shelter and support. They urgently need help to rebuild their lives. I am raising funds to assist them in securing a new home and starting anew.
