Story:

Dear Nyashanu alumni, Friends, Family, and Compassionate Strangers,

On 03 June 2024, Nyashanu Mission High School, located in Buhera rural district, eastern part of Zimbabwe, experienced a devastating fire that swept through one of the girls’ hostels, leaving destruction and heartbreak in its wake. The whole building was destroyed, cherished belongings turned to ashes, and many of our poor parents are now facing the unimaginable task of rebuilding the hostel from the ground up.

We are reaching out to you with heavy hearts but hopeful spirits. The impact of this disaster has been profound, and the road to recovery will be long and challenging. Our young girls are visibly distraught and need urgent assistance. However, we believe in the strength and generosity of our community and beyond.

The Situation:

Over 70 girl-students’ belongings were destroyed.
The student hostel completely destroyed; alternative accommodation required.
Essential items such as clothing (school uniform), learning material are urgently needed.
Emotional and psychological support is crucial as our community processes this trauma.
The school invited Public Works department for assessment of the damage and they are yet to provide their report and bill of quantities (report will be provided once available). Rough estimated bill is around US $51 000 including learners' belonging.

We have set up this GoFundMe to provide immediate and long-term assistance to those affected by the fire. Your generous donations will be used for:

1. Emergency Relief: Providing clothing, personal effects and medical supplies to students in need.

2. Rebuilding the Hostel: Assisting with the costs of rebuilding and repairing damaged infrastructure, ensuring students have a safe and comfortable place to return to.

3. Support Services: Offering counselling and support services to help students cope with the emotional aftermath of this disaster.

4. Community Restoration: Helping to rebuild our school, bringing life and hope back to our school.
