The Safe Haven Project
The Safe Haven Project is dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic abuse by providing them with essential mental health services, temporary housing, vocational training and food security resources. Our goal is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives by addressing their immediate needs and helping them establish long-term stability. By tailoring our support to the financial circumstances of each survivor, we ensure that resources are distributed equitably, with up to 100% of costs covered depending on their needs.
Goals:
- Provide accessible and affordable therapy services to survivors, covering up to 100% of therapy costs based on their financial circumstances.
- Offer safe, temporary housing to survivors as they transition to permanent accommodations.
- Equip survivors with the skills needed for stable employment through vocational training and education programs.
- Empower survivors to regain their independence and improve their overall mental and economic well-being.
Hypothesis:
Inherent Momentum for Change: We hypothesize that individuals who overcome the adversity of abusive relationships possess an inherent momentum that can be effectively channeled to drive positive change in their lives. The act of severing ties from an abusive relationship, while challenging, is believed to provide a significant psychological uplift and a sense of accomplishment that fuels further personal growth.
Economic and Social Benefits: We hypothesize that providing individuals with opportunities for meaningful employment aligned with their skills and passions, after achieving mental stability, will lead to improved socioeconomic outcomes. This not only benefits the individual by enhancing their quality of life but also contributes to the broader economy by fostering a more engaged and productive workforce.
Target Population:
The Safe Haven Project focuses on supporting individuals in Miami-Dade and surrounding areas who are escaping abusive environments. We prioritize women, men, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and other marginalized groups who are statistically more likely to face domestic abuse and financial barriers to recovery.
Services Offered:
Therapy Services:
Survivors receive individual therapy sessions with licensed professionals to address trauma and rebuild mental health. We cover up to 100% of the costs for 500 therapy sessions, supporting approximately 10 individuals for a full year of therapy (2 sessions per week for 12 months).
Based on this, here’s a breakdown of potential costs per survivor at a 100% coverage rate:
Number of Sessions per Week: 1-2 sessions
Duration of Therapy: 3-12 months
For 1 session per week for 3 months: $100/session * 12 weeks = $1,200
For 1 session per week for 12 months: $100/session * 48 weeks = $4,800
For 2 sessions per week for 3 months: $100/session * 24 sessions = $2,400
For 2 sessions per week for 12 months: $100/session * 96 sessions = $9,600
Temporary Shelter:
Safe housing is provided to survivors for one month as they transition out of crisis. We can cover up to 100% of housing costs for 20 to 40 survivors, ensuring they have a secure place to stay while they rebuild their lives.
Career Development and Vocational Training:
Survivors receive vocational training or education to gain the skills necessary for stable employment. We cover up to 100% of the costs for 10 to 20 survivors, helping them develop the tools they need for long-term financial independence.

By providing $100 gift cards to grocery stores that partner with us, we can help 9 survivors have food security for a month, ensuring that their basic nutritional needs are met.
