Help Rebuild Ottawa's Buddhist Monastery
Donation protected
We make this earnest appeal for your generous help to rebuild Ottawa Buddhist Temple - known as Hilda Jayewardenaramaya Buddhist Monastery (Not for Profit Organization and Registered Charitable Organization BN 88517-1546 RR0001). The current building, which is about 70 years old, is in dire straits. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic has put more pressure on the long-felt need for a place to serve Ottawa community. The City of Ottawa granting a permit on November 2021, to rebuild the Temple, came as a blessing to the community. The rebuilding cost is estimated to be $1.2 million. The Temple was founded in an old residence that late Dr. Cleo Jayewardena donated in memory of his wife, Mrs. Hilda Jayewardena in 1998. Since then, operating from that residence, we have been serving Ottawa community in numerous ways: 1. Provide compassion and equanimity-centered Buddhist Education; 2. Mental Health Development based on Buddhist psychology and meditation; 3. On-line learning and meditation classes and guidance; 4. Community services for needy and other cultural services and 5. Development of inter-religious harmony for a peaceful and caring society. We function due to the kindness and generosity of the community. To continue these services, we greatly appreciate your support for the building fund. May you find peace and happiness in this Nobel endeavour!
