Help Rebuild Sara and Ahmed's Lives After the Gaza War

Hello, my name is Nada Abushaaban, and I am reaching out to you today with a heartfelt plea to support a remarkable couple, Sara Almasri and Ahmed Arafat, whose lives have been upended by the recent conflict in Gaza. Their story is one of love, resilience, and unyielding hope amidst unimaginable adversity.
Their Story:
Sara and Ahmed's journey began with joy and excitement. Engaged in June 2023, they spent months planning their wedding, set for November 2023. They poured their savings into a new apartment, carefully fixing it up and furnishing it to create a warm and loving home for their future. Their dreams were bright and filled with promise. But on October 7, 2023, everything changed. The outbreak of war forced Sara and Ahmed to evacuate to separate parts of Gaza with their families. For 50-70 agonizing days, they were unable to see each other, separated by the chaos and destruction around them. They managed to reunite only once, for a mere hour, before being torn apart again. The war not only separated them physically but also severed their means of communication. For two and a half weeks, they lived in torment, unable to check on each other, their hearts heavy with fear and uncertainty.
Ahmed's sole source of income was obliterated by airstrikes, leaving them without financial stability. The apartment they had lovingly prepared was reduced to rubble, an uninhabitable shell of what was meant to be their sanctuary. The pain didn't stop there. Ahmed's sister was severely injured, and he faced the devastating loss of his brother-in-law and uncle. In their desperate attempt to escape the violence, they tried to leave Gaza through Rafah, only to find the border closed and their hopes dashed. Sara and Ahmed's story is not just about loss; it's about enduring love and the human spirit's capacity to persevere. Their dream of a life together, though battered and bruised, still flickers with hope. They need our help to rebuild, to find stability and safety, and to create new dreams from the ashes of their old ones.
This cause is deeply personal to me. As a Palestinian American, I have seen firsthand the resilience and strength of my people. Sara and Ahmed's plight is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring power of love. They represent countless others who are suffering in silence, their stories untold and their pain unseen.
