Support The Reopening Of Temple Bar
Donation protected
Temple Bar was established in 1927 by the father and uncle of the current owner, George Boukas. As the owner/operator of Temple Bar for 37 years, it has been the greatest honor for George to realize that his dream of a diverse clientele can actually coexist, especially back in the time when such an idea was unimaginable.
On the early morning of Friday, May 28th, Movement weekend, we had the unfortunate collapse of the facade of the building. This was not only devastating to George, the staff, and more importantly, the following we have cultivated throughout the years. Realistically, we knew that this would take a bit of time to repair; 5 months of being closed and dealing with the City of Detroit. We now realize that it is not the priority of the City for Temple Bar to reopen. We’ve made lasting memories over the years within the community that we hope we can continue, focused on respect and tolerance, which we believe makes us a stronger community.
As we approach 100 years of Temple Bar being in operation here in the Cass Corridor/Midtown/The District, I am humbled to ask for the community's support to help keep the Temple Bar alive.
