Help rebuild the Bridgetown Golf Club
Donation protected
The Bridgetown Golf Club was established in 1915, just fifty-odd years after the gazetting of Bridgetown and has thrilled and challenged local and visiting golfers every year since. It was a very pretty course with many stands of remnant bush and some magnificent trees. Our clubhouse started small and over the years has grown and developed into a social hub and has hosted weddings, wakes and carnivals as well as the usual clubhouse duties. A small cottage adjoined the clubhouse and our caretakers lived there and looked after the clubhouse and gardens and surrounds. The clubhouse was listed on the shires municipal inventory because of its interesting social history in our heritage listed town. The course is maintained by volunteer members who take on those regular tasks associated with the upkeep of grass greens and occasionally green fairways; nobody is employed but everybody works. You will note that I’ve been writing in past tense. This wonderful sporting landscape received a most unwelcome visitor on Saturday February 5th 2022 when a monstrous fire demolished the clubhouse and caretaker’s cottage as well as much of the course’s natural environment. Our caretakers lost all their belongings, and the clubhouse lost all its honour boards and historical memorabilia, its trophies and its furniture and many sweet memories in a few hours. We will build another home, of course we will, and we would really welcome your helping us do that through this GoFundMe page. We do have insurance, but this rarely covers all the costs of rebuilding. We will not have the same clubhouse and cottage, but we will have a new home to settle us to begin a new journey. Please help us out and our heartfelt thanks.
