Help rebuild lives in Carriacou

Dear friends and supporters.

My name is Sarah Green. I live in the South of England. I have 2 grandparents, David and Iris Russell that are in dire need of help and support. This is my plea to you.

As you may know, hurricane Beryl recently tore through the Caribbean. The category 4 hurricane devastated the beautiful island of Carriacou, with the 150 mph winds ripping the roofs off most homes leaving 98% damage or destruction to all buildings on the island in it’s wake. The desolation left by Beryl has severely impacted the lives of thousands of people including the lovely David and Iris Russell.

Currently there is no running water or power to the majority of the island. Communication towers are down and long term sustainable food sources are limited as all farms were destroyed along with the hospitals, schools and other crucial amenities. People have been, quite literally, left with no roofs over their heads, minimal medical assistance and next to no survival resources. Right now, even attempting to meet their basic needs of food, water, sleep and shelter is proving near impossible.

With no communication, David and Iris’s concerned family in the UK had to wait an agonising 5 days to find out if their beloved parents/grandparents/great grandparents were even alive after the hurricane Beryl ravaged the island. Thankfully they are safe, for now, but their house has been shattered and their lives have been turned upside down. Iris and David’s daughters Brenda (my mother) and Jaqui have gone to Carriacou to support their parents aged 86 and 89 and have found them heartbroken by this natural disaster with the roof of their home being completely obliterated.

Despite both Iris and David being in ill health, they dedicate their lives to looking after one another. This is something which is proving even harder after the destruction of their home. They desperately need help to rebuild their lives.

Our appeal would provide money to help rebuild the roof and lives of David and Iris.

All proceeds from this campaign will go directly towards the purchase of much needed materials and supplies to be shipped to help with the rebuilding process.
