Multi Aid for 3 displaced families in Gaza

My name is Afnan, and I want to share our story with you. I'm 33 years old, and I am the breadwinner for my family. Before this horrible war turned our lives upside down, I was a university professor and also worked as a technical support specialist on the Fahim Educational platform.

The war has forced us to flee our home multiple times, uprooting the children and elderly members of our family over and over again. Each time we must leave, my sister, Nour, is thrown into greater anxiety for her husband; she and their children miss him very much as he has been missing since the beginning of this conflict, and should he make it back to us, he may not know where to look. We are left wondering if he is alive, dead, or a prisoner somewhere as she struggles to care for their two children, Mustafa, who is 8 years old, and Malak, who is 5.

Adding to our distress, our children were forced to leave school in October and haven't been able to study since, even as many of their friends were able to continue their education after fleeing to Cairo. They are only children and don't understand why they were left behind. Education is their hope for a better future, but it feels increasingly out of reach. We simply couldn't make it out in time, but this unfair reality is impossible to explain to children who only want to see their friends and to learn.

This campaign aims to raise funds to evacuate my family through the Rafah/Egypt crossing, which we believe will require $5000 per adult and $2500 for children under 16 years old, but this number may change as the border crossing opens again. We are doing our best to be accurate in estimating what we might need, and we promise to use anything we don't need to get to safety to help others do the same.

Accelerated exit fees from travel records: (total $12,000)

Minimum living costs: $1,000 per month (total $6,000 for six months)

Total amount needed to get my family to safety: $55,500

We've added an additional amount to our goal in order to cover unexpected obstacles, to help us make ends meet while we wait for the crossinf to open, and to help us set up a new life once we are safely across the border. Please know that even though our goal seems difficult to reach, even the smallest donations are appreciated beyond measure and will help us survive in an environment where even clean water has become a luxury.

Our family has suffered greatly under the effects of this conflict, and as all medical services have come to a halt, we find ourselves desperate for any help we can get.

We are setting aside our pride and reaching out to you because your mercy is our only hope. We have received so many beautiful words of solidarity from kind souls around the world; we hope that if this message reaches other mothers like Nour and myself, the shared experience we all have of aching to see smiles return to our children's faces during times of grief might inspire them, and you, to help in any way you can.
