Help Refugees in Tukwila This Winter
Donation protected
As the holiday season approaches, we’re reminded of how lucky we are to live with a roof over our heads. It also reminds us that as a community, supporting those in need will forever be the best gift. As students from Skyline, Sana Parkhi, Avishi Jain, and Ahilya Dhole, we’ve started a fundraiser to raise funds for Riverton Park United Methodist Church refugee camp.
Riverton Church houses hundreds of refugees from countries including Brazil and Angola. The refugee camp in Tukwila provides refugees a temporary place to house in while they receive necessary documents to start working in the U.S.
Most residents in the camp are families just like ours. Families with children, expected mothers, and people doing their best to support each other. Most of these young families fled their country from war or famine and ended up in Tukwila. As weather worsens and number of families increase, the conditions deteriorate. There's a lack of warm clothes, weather breaks tent, and families get sick. The funds raised from this project will be directly donated to Riverton Church, which will then be used to provide better shelter for families during harsh climates.
