EarlyBird256: Empowering village youth in Uganda to soar
Donation protected
My name is Reginah Sanyu , and I’m the founder of Earlybird256 , a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping underprivileged girls in Uganda find the power of their voices through art, movement and wellness education. We are partnering with schools and organizations in Eastern Uganda ( Busoga district) which is one of the top areas with the most poverty in Uganda. Many children in these communities struggle to find a reliable source of food, let alone access to education and extracurricular activities. The programs we offer are inspired by people and activities that helped me, a native Ugandan, navigate life in the diaspora.
We partner with schools and organizations in rural communities that suffer from high rates of school dropouts. With the mantra of #DoingLittleThingsWithPassion- we use creative outlets like art, creative writing, music as well as sports and hands on learning to create and promote safe spaces where especially girls can find solutions to the many obstacles they face. Giving them a chance to be in charge of their futures.
Currently, we are working with the community of Rev. Nayenga Primary School, a government-funded school in the heart of Kamuli District, Eastern Uganda. As well as a local NGO that has campuses both in the city and the Kamuli village. Your donations would help to sustainably run our programs.
What problems are we solving?
The communities we work with face many problems. We fight hunger in the classroom through our Porridge Program, which provides free breakfast and lunch to students. We address the lack of access to educational information by investing in classroom materials and tests to overcome the immense challenges that remote learning creates for rural communities. We do everything we can to increase the rate of secondary-school enrollment and completion.
What is our solution to the problem?
EarlyBird256 was created to promote education, entrepreneurship, and easier access to resources. Our programs provide the girls in Uganda with easier access to resources and educational information. We create a safe space where young girls can learn to express themselves, such as our creative writing programs. Many students write to us and ask for help with personal projects (such as farming or making crafts to sell) that enable them to pay for their education.
How will the money be used?
With a mantra of #DoingLittleThingsWithPassion, funds raised will be used to support our mission and programs to help us sustainably normalize spaces where especially young girls can learn to take charge of their futures.
Some of the ways the money will be used include but are not limited to:
Wellness packages (including soap, sanitation products, face masks, educational materials, and backpacks)
Porridge Program (providing students with free breakfast and lunch during school)
Resources to combat the challenges created by remote learning (including classroom materials such as pens, books, dictionaries, math sets, art supplies and backpacks).
Communication and transportation
Other initiatives that align with sustaining our programs
We are grateful for your contribution and support. Any support — however small — makes a significant impact and will not be taken for granted.
Other ways to donate: and venmo via @earlybird256.
