Help Reinier Wink study cello at the Juilliard

Mijn naam is Reinier Wink en ik studeer momenteel cello aan de Juilliard School. De hulp van vele ontzettend lieve en betrokken sponsors heeft het mogelijk gemaakt dat ik in augustus 2022 heb kunnen starten met deze studie in New York. Ik heb het eerste studiejaar met uitstekende resultaten afgerond en kijk terug op een intens schooljaar, waarin ik heel hard heb gewerkt en ontzettend veel heb geleerd. Ik voel me nog steeds ongelooflijk vereerd dat ik dit jaar aan de Juilliard School aan mijn muzikale ontwikkeling heb kunnen werken!

Uiteraard wil ik heel graag mijn studie aan de Juilliard School de komende drie jaar vervolgen en doe ik er alles aan om dat mogelijk te maken. Daarvoor doe ik een beroep op sponsors en fondsen voor de benodigde financiële ondersteuning.

Over mijzelf

Op vijfjarige leeftijd startte ik met mijn eerste cellolessen bij mijn moeder. Op mijn tiende begon ik met cellolessen bij Lucia Swarts aan de School voor Jong Talent van het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag (Nederland). In de zomer van 2021 haalde ik mijn VWO-diploma aan de School voor Jong Talent met een 10 voor cello. Aansluitend ben ik gestart met mijn bachelor cello aan Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag bij Lucia Swarts. In het voorjaar van 2022 werd ik toegelaten tot de Juilliard School in New York City; het hoogst aangeschreven conservatorium ter wereld.

Het afgelopen academisch jaar heb ik gestudeerd bij Joel Krosnick, docent aan de Juilliard School in New York City en voormalig cellist van het Juilliard Quartet. Krosnick is een zeer inspirerende docent en persoonlijkheid die zijn enorme levenservaring en muzikale kennis met mij deelt. We hebben zowel op persoonlijk als muzikaal vlak een hele goede klik en zijn lessen voegen een unieke dimensie toe aan mijn muzikale en persoonlijke ontwikkeling.

Mijn verzoek

Studeren aan Juilliard is zeer kostbaar. In totaal bedragen de kosten van collegegeld, huisvesting op de campus, verzekeringen, studiemateriaal, enz., ruim $80.000 per jaar. Gelukkig ontvang ik een scholarship van $38.000 per schooljaar van Juilliard. Om ook de komende jaren mijn studie te kunnen vervolgen, ben ik volledig afhankelijk van fondsen en sponsoren. Op dit moment doe ik mijn uiterste best om het resterende bedrag bij elkaar krijgen voor mijn tweede studiejaar. Momenteel heb ik nog $25.000 voor het academisch jaar 2023-2024 nodig, hopelijk lukt het dat bedrag bij elkaar te krijgen. Ik hoop dat mensen met een hart voor cello, muziek en talentontwikkeling mij kunnen helpen met een donatie, om zo de volgende stap in mijn muzikale carrière te bereiken.

Biografie

Op bijna zesjarige leeftijd begon Reinier Wink (2002) cello te spelen. Van 2013 tot 2022 studeerde hij bij Lucia Swarts, aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. Sinds 2022 vervolgt hij zijn bachelor cello bij Joel Krosnick aan de Juilliard School in New York.

De afgelopen jaren won Reinier meerdere eerste prijzen op muziekconcoursen, waaronder het Britten Cello Concours, het Prinses Christina Concours en het Koninklijk Concertgebouw Concours. Hij is ook laureaat van Classic Young Masters. In oktober 2020 nam Reinier deel aan het prestigieuze Nationaal Cello Concours in Amsterdam, waar hij als jongste deelnemer de aanmoedigingsprijs won.

Reinier heeft vele concerten gegeven binnen en buiten Nederland, waaronder diverse soloconcerten. Hij speelde onder andere solo op het Jong Talenten Gala met het Residentieorkest in de Grote Zaal van het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Op veertienjarige leeftijd nam Reinier de derde cellosuite van Bach op voor het project AllofBach van de Nederlandse Bachvereniging. De opname is in oktober 2018 online geüpload en heeft bijna 1 miljoen weergaven van over de hele wereld en vele lovende reacties. Verder heeft Reinier diverse lessen en masterclasses gevolgd, onder andere bij Anner Bijlsma, Marcio Caineiro, Gavriel Lipkind, Aldo Mata, Raphael Pidoux, Laurie Smukler, Samuel Rhodes en Natasha Brofsky.

Reinier bespeelt twee heel bijzondere instrumenten van Nederlandse bouwers. Zijn moderne cello heeft hij in bruikleen van het Nederlands Muziekinstrumenten Fonds (NMF) en is gebouwd door Johannes Theodorus Cuypers in 1771. Sinds 2021 speelt hij op een barokcello die is gebouwd in 1705 door Pieter Rombouts. Verder heeft hij een moderne strijkstok en een barokstrijkstok, beide gebouwd door Kees van Hemert uit Den Haag.

My name is Reinier Wink, and I am currently studying cello at the Juilliard School. Thanks to the support of many incredibly kind and dedicated sponsors, I was able to start my studies in August 2022 in New York. I successfully completed my first year of studies with excellent results and I reflect on an intense academic year in which I worked very hard and learned a lot. I still feel incredibly honoured to have had the opportunity to work on my musical development at the Juilliard School this year! Naturally, I am eager to continue my studies at the Juilliard School for the next three years and I am doing everything possible to make that happen. For that, I am again reaching out to sponsors and foundations for the necessary financial support.

About myself

I began playing the cello at the age of five, taught by my mother. At the age of ten, I started cello lessons with Lucia Swarts at the School for Young Talent of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, The Netherlands. In the summer of 2021, I obtained my VWO diploma at the School for Young Talent with an A+ for cello. Subsequently, I began my bachelor's degree in cello at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, studying with Lucia Swarts. In the Spring of 2022, I was admitted to the Juilliard School in New York City, the world's most prestigious conservatory. During the past academic year, I studied with Joel Krosnick, professor at the Juilliard School in New York City and former cellist of the Juilliard Quartet. Mr. Krosnick is an incredibly inspiring teacher and person who shares his vast life experience and musical knowledge with me. We connect very well both personally and musically, and his lessons add a unique dimension to my musical and personal development.

My request

Studying at Juilliard is very expensive. The total expenses for tuition, on-campus housing, insurance, study materials, etc., add up to over $80,000 per year. Fortunately, I receive a scholarship of $38,000 per academic year from Juilliard. To continue my studies in the coming years, I am entirely dependent on funds and sponsors. Currently, I am doing my utmost to raise the remaining amount for my second year of study. I still need $25,000 for the academic year 2023-2024, and I hope to be able to raise that amount. I hope that people who have a passion for the cello, music, and talent development can assist me with a donation to help me take the next step in my musical career.

Biography

At the age of almost six, Reinier Wink (2002) began playing the cello. From 2013 to 2022, he studied with Lucia Swarts at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Since 2022, he has been pursuing his bachelor's degree in cello under Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School in New York.

In recent years, Reinier has won several first prizes at music competitions, including the Britten Cello Competition, the Princes Christina Competition, and the Royal Concertgebouw Competition. He is also a laureate of Classic Young Masters. In October 2020, Reinier participated in the prestigious National Cello Competition in Amsterdam, where he won the encouragement award as the youngest participant.

Reinier has performed numerous concerts in the Netherlands and abroad, including several solo concerts. He performed solo at the Young Talents Gala with the Residentie Orchestra in the Concertgebouw's Main Hall in Amsterdam. At the age of fourteen, Reinier recorded Bach's Third Cello Suite for the AllofBach project by the Netherlands Bach Society. The recording was uploaded online in October 2018 and has received nearly 1 million views from around the world, along with many positive responses. Furthermore, Reinier has attended various masterclasses and lessons with Anner Bylsma, Marcio Caineiro, Gavriel Lipkind, Aldo Mata, Raphael Pidoux, Laurie Smukler, Samuel Rhodes and Natasha Brofsky.

Reinier plays two very special instruments made by Dutch luthiers. He has the use of a modern cello from the Dutch Musical Instruments Fund (NMF), built by Johannes Theodorus Cuypers in 1771. Since 2021, he has been playing a baroque cello built in 1705 by Pieter Rombouts. Additionally, he possesses a modern bow and a baroque bow, both crafted by Kees van Hemert from The Hague.
